This August 2021: Chng Seok Tin, Remembrance of a Friend
Chng Seok Tin, or Seok is fondly recalled through her artistic legacy spanning 1975 to 2016. Artist, writer and teacher, she left a lasting impact on those around her. Seok worked persistently experimenting with print, a medium to express touching life philosophies and wry commentaries about the inconsistencies of the world she lived in. This memorial exhibition endeavours to bring us closer to the heart of the artist.

Seok had massive energy and persistently explored techniques for print and art media that enabled her to work creatively. Her work approach expands methods of art-making for both sighted and visually-assisted artists.
​
Nett proceeds will go to Very Special Arts Singapore towards enabling, engaging and empowering persons with disabilities.

This Dec 2020: Sujak Rahman - Launch of Temasek Batik Video
Sujak Rahman (b. 1949, Singapore) has been regarded as one of the finest batik painting artists in Singapore and the region. He is certainly one of the few who has consistently developed the vocabulary and methodology of batik with the techniques of modern visual art. He is concerned that the language and methodology of batik art should develop as a contemporary artistic medium, transforming from traditional craft. Sujak’s work stands as an important connector between traditional craft and modern experimentation in Southeast Asian art. This candid video documents his thoughts and batik-making process after more than 40 years of batik experimentation and painting.

This Nov 2020: Sujak Rahman - Return: Retrospective 1978-2020
The venerated Singapore batik artist Sujak Rahman is marking his 71st year by exhibiting 40 of his paintings in a retrospective of his works from 1978 - 2020. A strong believer in the importance of Singapore’s ownership of our cultural development, Sujak has developed his personal batik methodology over this time, sharing it through his teaching.
The exhibition is a culminative iteration of Sujak Rahman’s work with new and recent paintings as well as artworks dating back to the late 1970s, when the artist first began his batik practice. Highlights include: his early batik work Neighbours (1978), Melting (1987), Pelikat in Tatami (2015), Race (2020) and Return (2020). Embedded in the narrative, the exhibition traces the development of Sujak Rahman’s Temasek batik over 30 years, modernist influences from the works of Cheong Soo Pieng and Chen Wen Hsi, and his position as a major Singapore artist of working since the late 1970s.
Through this exhibition, the self-taught artist considers his own motivations, visual language, methodologies and style over 40 years of developments including his life in Japan, personal insights, triumphs and losses.
